WSJ Editorial: Lamont Race "Seems to Be Helping" CT GOP Congressional Delegation
Yesterday's Wall Street Journal contained an editorial concerning the recent primaries throughout the nation. Notably, the Journal editorial board opined, "Ned Lamont's victory last month over Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman seems to be helping the GOP retain its three vulnerable House seats in that state." We'll see.

Don't you think a more accurate description would be "Joe Lieberman's 3rd party bid...seems to be helping the GOP retain its three vulnerable House seats in that state."
No. The entry of Lamont months back galvanized coverage and exposure that otherwise would have gone to the three challengers in Connecticut. Farrell and Courteney probably didn't need the publicity, but Chris Murphy did. He's the real loser here.
But, if Lieberman were to drop out today, most Republicans would have little reason to go to the polls (no senate candidate, a governor who doesn't need republican votes to win...etc).
BM: Sure, but the point is that until Lamont is out of the picture he is THE story in CT. Even if Lieberman had dropped out, the press would have remained focused on Lamont to the detriment of the three Dem challengers. Also, if Lieberman had dropped out in August there probably would have been more Republican support for Schlesinger. After all, in 2000 Waterbury Mayor (and current "guest of the government") Giordano received 35% of the vote with absolutely NO support from Gov Rowland who was, at that time, the most popular state politician.
